Former Tennessee DL Da'Jon Terry named a captain for Oklahoma against the Vols
Former Tennessee defensive lineman and current Oklahoma redshirt senior Da’Jon Terry will be a captain for the Sooners on Saturday night against his former team. The 6-foot-3, 330-pound defensive tackle played at Tennessee in 2021 and 2022 after transferring from Kansas.
Terry recorded 18 tackles, four tackles for loss and a sack in 13 games last season. Through three games this season he has seven tackles and one fumble recovery.
Terry had four tackles — three solo and one assisted — in Oklahoma’s 34-19 win over Tulane last week.
He described playing for Josh Heupel at Tennessee as “an amazing” experience.
“Josh Heupel, he’s a players’ coach,” Terry said. “It was amazing to have Coach Heupel as a coach there at Tennessee.”

No. 6 Tennessee (3-0) and No. 15 Oklahoma (3-0) are in primetime Saturday night, scheduled for a 7:30 Eastern Time kickoff on ABC after a fast start to the season. ESPN’s College GameDay will broadcast live from Norman Saturday morning.
“They’re the best offense in the nation right now,” Terry said. “They’re very good. We just have to lock in on the details. Just be ready to come out and compete on Saturday.”
The Vols are a touchdown favorite on the road after a fast start this season, winning three games by an average of 59.3 points thanks to a high-flying offense and a stingy defense, powered by a deep, talented defensive line.
“It’s amazing to see some of my teammates and brothers on the defensive line that I played with there,” Terry said. “So it’s going to be an amazing time to see them.”
Saturday isn’t Terry’s first reunion with one of his former teams.
Oklahoma lost 38-33 at Kansas last season, with Terry finishing with one tackle. He had 16 tackles, two tackles for loss and two sacks in two seasons at Kansas, where he was a redshirt in 2019, before appearing in eight games in 2020.

In his two seasons with the Vols, Terry combined for 35 tackles, seven tackles for loss and three sacks in 25 games.
“I know a lot of people still on both teams,” Terry said of the Vols and Jayhawks. “I’m just ready to go out and compete on Saturday.”
Terry is part of an Oklahoma defense that is giving up just 11.3 points per game. Oklahoma is 22nd against the run, allowing 77.6 yards per game, 58th against the pass, at 187.0 yards per game, and 27th in total defense, giving up 264.7 yards per game.
Tennessee leads the country in scoring offense (63.7 points per game), is third in rushing offense (336.3 yards), 22nd in passing offense (303.0).
“I feel like the best thing that we can do is just get the call and line up and play.” Terry said of facing the uptempo Tennessee offense. “That’s the main thing. We can’t be out there fidgeting around. We just have to get down and play. That’s it. Be ready to play at any given time.”
