Tennessee football is one of the top six programs for 2024 four-star edge rusher Danny Okoye, who released his list on social media on Sunday. The Vols were listed alongside Alabama, Oklahoma, Colorado, Texas and LSU.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Okoye, a Tulsa, Okla., native, is a four-star prospect and ranked No. 76 overall in the On3 ratings. He’s the No. 8 edge rusher in the class and the No. 1 player in the state of Oklahoma.

Okoye took his most recent visit to Tennessee in June, an unofficial visit following the one he took to see the Vols in January.

He told Volquest after the June visit that Tennessee at the time was “definitely at the top or very close to the top” of his list.

“I feel comfortable saying that,” Okoye said at the time, “because there’s no place like it.”

“Tennessee was always the favorite,” Okoye added. Their coaches have been recruiting me harder than pretty much anybody else. Definitely after this weekend it’s definitely increased.”

Okoye said in June it was the Tennessee coaching staff that had the Vols high on his list.

“They’re all people I would love to play for,” he said. “There’s nobody where it’s like ‘I don’t really like him.’ Everybody comes together. It’s like a big family and I can really appreciate that.”

Tennessee’s 2024 class currently consists of 19 commitments. The group is ranked seventh nationally and fifth in the SEC. It’s headlined by five-star receiver Mike Matthews, the No. 14 overall player in the On3 Industry Rankings, ahead of 12 four-star prospects.

Okoye told Volquest in June that he and Boo Carter, the four-star in-state athlete and Tennessee commitment, “go way back.”

“We’ve been friends,” Okoye said. “It’s cool being around people who have already made a decision, seeing how comfortable they are with it already.

“They’re always like ‘C’mon man.’ I might be convinced here in a couple of months, we’ll see.”

Okoye in June said his plan was “trying to commit during the season” and that he wanted to get back to Tennessee this fall for an official visit.

“I’m still trying to take some game-day visits to make sure my decision is 100% sure,” Okoye said. “I’m hoping (to announce a decision) maybe around late October to early November. I’m definitely coming back to Tennessee during the season for my official.”
