Josh Heupel: Bru McCoy, Squirrel White injuries are 'not longterm, season-ending injuries'
Tennessee coach Josh Heupel didn’t have specific updates during his weekly press conference on Monday when asked about injured wide receivers Bru McCoy and Squirrel White. What he was willing to say, though, isn’t neither injury is considered longterm.
“None of the injuries are longterm, season-ending injuries,” Heupel said. “As we go through the week, we’ll find out exactly where everybody is at.”
McCoy was injured in the first half of Tennessee’s 19-14 loss at Arkansas and appeared to have his right hand in a heavy wrap on the Tennessee sideline in the second half. White was in a sling after leaving the game with an injury in the second half.
Defensive lineman Bryson Eason also left the game with what appeared to be a left leg injury.
Tennessee will issue first Florida injury report Wednesday night
Heupel joked that reporters would see an update on the SEC-mandated injury report that Tennessee will have to release later this week.
“You guys can look forward to the injury report on Wednesday,” Heupel said with a laugh.
McCoy caught two passes for nine yards. He got hit near the Arkansas sideline late in the first half, checking himself out of the game after coming up slow after the play.
White caught a team-high seven passes for 38 yards before leaving with his injury. He entered the game with eight catches for 121 yards entering Saturday night’s game.
McCoy entered Saturday night’s game with 12 catches for 200 yards. He had a season-high six catches for 89 yards in the 69-3 season-opening win over Chattanooga on August 31. He caught two passes for 19 yards over Tennessee’s next two games, wins over North Carolina State and Kent State, and had four catches for a season-high 92 yards two weeks ago at Oklahoma.
