Josh Heupel taking time to be a dad during Tennessee's bye week
Tennessee football coaches will have a unique viewing opportunity while the Vols enjoy the bye week on Saturday. Four of the next six opponents on schedule — Texas A&M, Alabama, Kentucky and Georgia — will be playing a doubleheader.
First it’s No. 11 Alabama (4-1, 2-0 SEC) at Texas A&M (4-1, 2-0) at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time on CBS. After that, it’s No. 20 Kentucky (5-0, 2-0) at No. 1 Georgia (5-0, 2-0).
The Vols (4-1, 1-1), after the open date, host Texas A&M on October 14 (3:30 p.m. ET, CBS). They then go to Alabama and Kentucky over back-to-back weeks, on October 21 and October 28, respectively. Tennessee hosts Georgia on November 18, after a home date with UConn and a road game at Missouri.
Josh Heupel: ‘I’m gonna get a chance to be a dad’ during bye week
On Saturday, though, Josh Heupel is going to take some time to be a dad.
He was asked Wednesday during his appearance on the the SEC Coaches Teleconference about the uniqueness of Tennessee’s next two opponents playing each other while the Vols have the day off.
But Heupel’s mind hadn’t even gone there.
“Man, I haven’t thought about it at this point at all,” he said. “This weekend my son’s got a football game early Saturday morning, so I’m gonna get a chance to be a dad and go watch him play. Haven’t gotten a chance to really since we started training camp.

Later in the day he’ll mix in some football on TV, while still taking time to enjoy his family.
