Dylan Sampson rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns and Nico Iamaleava passed for 292 yards and a touchdown to lead No. 7 Tennessee to a 28-18 win over Kentucky Saturday night at Neyland Stadium.

Here’s how it happened, as it happened:

First Quarter 

Kentucky 7, Tennessee 0 (5:28, 1Q): Kentucky got on the board first with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Brock Vandagriff to Josh Kattus, capping a six-play, 75-yard scoring drive. Both teams had opening drives that stalled in the red zone. Kentucky was stopped on fourth-and-2 after driving to the Tennessee 5-yard line. The Vols then drove 70 yards before missing a 43-yard field goal attempt.

Second Quarter

Tennessee 7, Kentucky 7 (4:45, 2Q): After losing a fumble at the Kentucky 22-yard line and missing two field goals, Tennessee finally got on the board with a 1-yard touchdown run from freshman running back Peyton Lewis. The drive went 65 yards in 14 plays to tie the game, taking 4:54 off the clock. It was Tennessee’s first points in the first half of a game since the Oklahoma game on September 21. 

Kentucky 10, Tennessee 7 (0:30, 2Q): Kentucky’s answered Tennessee’s touchdown drive with a field goal of its own. The Wildcats went 61 yards in 10 plays before kicking a 32-yard field goal with 30 seconds left in the first half. 

Third Quarter

Tennessee 14, Kentucky 10 (8:28, 3Q): Tennessee’s opening drive of the second half reached the Kentucky 16-yard line, but ended with Max Gilbert’s third missed field goal of the night. The second drive ended in the end zone, with a 7-yard Dylan Sampson touchdown run. Tennessee’s defense strip-sacked Kentucky quarterback Brock Vandagriff at the UT 28-yard line to start the scoring drive.

Tennessee 21, Kentucky 10 (0:33, 3Q): Miles Kitselman caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Nico Iamaleava, converting another turnover forced by the Tennessee defense. This time it was a Will Brooks interruption returned to the Kentucky 10-yard line. 

Fourth Quarter 

Tennessee 21, Kentucky 18 (13:31, 4Q): Kentucky backup quarterback Gavin Wimsatt replaced an injured Brock Vandagriff and took the Wildcats down the field for a touchdown on his second drive. He threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Ja’Mori Maclin to get UK back within a field goal after getting the two-point conversion. Wimsatt completed a 26-yard pass on third-and-4 to kickstart the drive.

Tennessee 28, Kentucky 18 (4:55, 4Q): The Vols went 92 yards for a touchdown when they needed points the most. Dylan Sampson rushed the final six yards for the score, getting the lead back to 10.
