Jalin Hyatt is Tennessee football’s newest 1,000-yard receiver. The junior breakout star for the Vols went over 1,000 yards on a 30-yard pass from Hendon Hooker in the second quarter on Saturday against Missouri.

The completion set Tennessee up with first-and-goal at the Missouri 3-yard line, with Jaylen Wright running for a touchdown on the next play to put the Vols up 14-7 early in the opening minute of the second quarter.

It gave Hyatt 1,028 yards in a little over eight games this season. He’s the 10th Tennessee receiver in program history to go over 1,000 yards and the second to do it during the first two seasons of the Josh Heupel era. Cedric Tillman had 1,084 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns in 13 games last season.

Hyatt has already set a single-season Tennessee record with 14 touchdowns catches. He had 11 touchdowns over a four-game stretch last Month.

He caught two touchdowns in Tennessee’s 40-18 win at LSU on October 8, then set another Tennessee record with five touchdown catches in the 52-49 win over Alabama a week later. Hyatt caught two more touchdowns against UT Martin on October 22 and two against Kentucky on October 29.

Hyatt had two touchdowns against Akron on September 17 and started the season with a 23-yard touchdown on Tennessee’s first offensive play of the season in the win over Ball State on September 1.

He caught a season-high 11 passes for 73 yards in the overtime win at Pitt on September 10 and had a season-high 207 yards in the win over Alabama. He had 174 yards against UT Martin and 138 against Kentucky.

Hyatt entered Saturday’s game with 970 receiving yards on 51 catches, averaging 19.0 yards per catch. He added four catches for 57 yards early against Missouri.

Tennessee missing Cedric Tillman against Missouri

Tillman is out against Missouri after going through pregame warmups and being honored on the field before the Senior Day kickoff at Neyland Stadium.

A Tennessee spokesperson said the Vols “just decided not to play” Tillman, who missed three games earlier this season due to a high-ankle sprain. On The Vol Network radio broadcast, sideline reporter and former Tennessee receiver Jayson Swain reported that the Vols opted not to play Tillman due to the wet field conditions.

Tillman had a breakout redshirt junior season in 2021, catching 64 passes fro 1,081 yards and 12 touchdowns. He’s played in just five games this season, after suffering a high-ankle sprain in the win over Akron on September 17 at Neyland Stadium. He has 28 catches for 336 yards and one touchdown this season.
