Tennessee football broke 15 team records during 2022 season

Tennessee football’s offense spent the 2022 season rewriting the team school records on its way to the 11-win season. In total, 15 records were broken — wins over ranked teams, total points, point per game, total offense, total offense per game, yards per play, total touchdown, passing touchdowns, rushing touchdowns, completion percentage, passing efficiency, passing yards, fewest interceptions thrown, first downs and points after touchdown.
The six wins over ranked teams at the time of the meeting — at Pittsburgh, Florida, at LSU, Alabama, Kentucky and Clemson — tied a record set by the 1998 national championship team. The Vols won 10 games in the regular season for the first time since 2003 and 11 games in total for the first time since 2001.
Tennessee led college football in scoring offense
In Year 2 under Josh Heupel, Tennessee finished first nationally in scoring offense, averaging 46.1 points per game, a new program record.
The Vols scored 599 points and had 6,832 yards of total offense, averaging 525.5 yards per game and 7.2 yards per play.
Tennessee passed for 38 touchdowns and rushed for 40, two records that led to a new record for total touchdowns, 79.
Tennessee quarterbacks completing 68.7 percent of their passes was another record, along with passing efficiency (181.39), passing yards (4,239) and fewest interceptions thrown (3).
Tennessee had 330 total first towns and kicked 75 points after touchdowns.
Hendon Hooker in 11 games passed for 3,135 yards and 27 touchdowns, completing 69.6 percent of his passes before tearing his ACL in November at South Carolina. Joe Milton made nine appearances, throwing for 971 yards and 10 touchdowns, including three in the 31-14 win over Clemson in the Orange Bowl.
