Ohio State jumps Tennessee in AP Top 25 after both teams were off on Saturday
Tennessee Football dropped from No. 6 to No. 7 in the new Associated Press Top 25 on Sunday, with Ohio State jumping the Vols and going from No. 7 to No. 6. Both teams were off on Saturday while conference championship games were being played.
Oregon stayed at No. 1 in the AP Poll after winning the Big Ten and Georgia jumped up to No. 2 after winning the SEC Championship Game in overtime against Texas.
Arizona State moved up to No. 10 after winning the Big 12 and SMU dropped to No. 12, one spot behind No. 11 Alabama, after losing in the ACC Championship Game against Clemson.
Tennessee (10-2) two weeks moved up three spots in both the AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll, going up to No. 7 in the AP poll and No. 8 in the Coaches Poll after 56-0 win over UTEP on Senior Day at Neyland Stadium.
The Vols were ranked No. 6 in both the AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll last week.
Ohio State (10-2) was ranked No. 2 in both polls two weeks ago, before losing 13-10 to unranked Michigan last week in Columbus.
Ohio State dropped to No. 7 in the AP Top 25 and No. 8 in the Coaches Poll last week. Miami went to No. 14 in both the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll.
Vols were ranked No. 7 in College Football Playoff Top 25 last week
The Vols were ranked No. 7 in the College Football Top 25 in the new rankings last week and were seeded ninth in the 12-team College Football Playoff bracket.
The official playoff bracket will be set and announced on Sunday at Noon Eastern Time.
ESPN on Saturday night ranked Tennessee No. 7 in its College Football Playoff ranking projection and had the Vols as the No. 9 seed in the bracket, going to No. 8 Ohio State in the first round.

Where Tennessee Football has been ranked this season
Tennessee dropped to No. 10 in the AP Top 25 and No. 11 in the Coaches Poll after the 31-17 loss at Georgia three weeks ago. The College Football Playoff Top 25 followed by dropping the Vols to No. 11 and to the first team out of the 12-team playoff bracket, based on the rankings and projections after the Georgia loss.
The Vols were ranked No. 7 and seeded No. 8 in the first 12-team playoff bracket projection in November.
Tennessee was also ranked No. 4 in the AP Top 25 and No. 5 in the Coaches Poll before the 19-14 loss at Arkansas on October 5, then fell to No. 8 in both polls afterward.
The Vols had made steady climbs early in the season in both rankings after lopsided wins over Chattanooga (69-3), North Carolina State (51-10) and Kent State (71-0) and the 25-15 win at Oklahoma.
The Vols started the year ranked No. 15 in both the Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25.
The AP Poll moved Tennessee up to No. 14 in Week 2, No. 7 in Week 3, No. 6 in Week 4 and No. 5 in Week 5. The Coaches Poll had the Vols at No. 12 in Week 2, No. 9 in Week 3, No. 7 in Week 4 and No. 6 in Week 5. The Vols moved up one spot to No. 4 in both the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll the first open date of the season.
