Where Tennessee is ranked in the preseason Associated Press Top 25

Tennessee football will start the 2023 season ranked No. 12 in the Associated Press Top 25. The preseason poll was released on Monday, with Georgia ranked No. 1 ahead of Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama and LSU.

USC is the preseason No. 6 with Penn State at No 7, Florida State at No. 8, Clemson at No. 9 and Washington at No. 10. Texas came in at 11, one spot ahead of Tennessee.

The Vols last week were ranked No. 10 in the USA Today Coaches preseason poll. Tennessee was ranked behind Georgia, Michigan, Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, USC, Penn State, Florida State and Clemson, respectively.

Tennessee opponents in the AP Top 25 preseason poll include No. 1 Georgia, No. 3 Alabama and No. 23 Texas A&M. It was the same three opponents ranked in the preseason Coach poll, with No. 1 Georgia, No. 3 Alabama and No. 25 Texas A&M.

Vols picked fourth in SEC, second in East in preseason media poll

Tennessee last month was picked to finish fourth in SEC preseason media poll to finish fourth in the league and second in the SEC East.

The Vols received 14 first-place votes in the SEC East, finishing behind Georgia and its 265 votes. Tennessee at No. 2 came in ahead of South Carolina, Kentucky, Florida and Missouri. South Carolina received three first-place votes, Kentucky received one and Vanderbilt, picked the finish last in the division, received eight first-place votes. Georgia was picked to win the SEC ahead of Alabama, LSU and Tennessee.

Tennessee wide receiver Bru McCoy was voted Second Team All-SEC and quarterback Joe Milton III made the Third Team, along with offensive linemen Javontez Spraggins and Cooper Mays.

Kickoff times set for Tennessee’s first three games

Kickoff times and TV information for Tennessee first three games of the season has been set.

The Vols announced on May 31 that the September 2 game against Virginia, a neutral-site game at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, will be a Noon Eastern Time kickoff on ABC. It will be the second consecutive year the Vols will be on ABC after the Pitt game was televised on the network last September. 

The road game at Florida on September 16 will be a 7 p.m. ET start on ESPN. South Carolina at Georgia will be the SEC Game of the Week on CBS earlier that afternoon.

The kickoff time for the September 9 home-opener against Austin Peay is set for 5 p.m. Eastern Time. The game will be an ESPN+/SEC Network+ online live stream.
