Where Tennessee is ranked in the College Football Playoff Top 25
Tennessee on Tuesday night was ranked No. 17 in the College Football Top 25, the first CFP ranking of the season. The Vols, after a 6-2 to the season, host UConn (1-7) for Homecoming on Saturday (Noon Eastern Time, SEC Network) at Neyland Stadium.
With the win at Kentucky, Tennessee picked up its sixth win of the season in October for the second straight year, something the Vols had not done since the 2006 and 2007 seasons. Josh Heupel has led Tennessee to 17-4 record over its last 21 games.
Tennessee was the No. 1 team in the first CFP Top 25 after starting a perfect 8-0 last season, before losses at Georgia and South Carolina. The Vols later beat Clemson in the Capital One Orange Bowl to cap an 11-2 season.
The Vols on Sunday moved up to No. 16 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, jumping up four spots after the 33-27 win Saturday night against Kentucky at Kroger Field in Lexington. They moved up two spots to No. 19 in the Associated Press Top 25.
After hosting UConn, Tennessee goes back on the road next week at Missouri. The regular-season schedule wraps up with back-to-back home games against No. 1 Georgia (November 18) and Vanderbilt (November 25).

Vols in the Polls
The Vols dropped two spots in both polls last week after the loss at Alabama, going down to No. 19 in the Coaches Poll and No. 21 in the AP Top 25.
Tennessee started the season ranked No. 12 in the AP Preseason Top 25. The Vols moved up three spots to No. 9 overall in Week 2, after the 49-13 win over Virginia in Nashville, then dropped two spots to No. 11 a week later after the 30-13 win over Austin Peay.
After the 29-16 loss at Florida on September 16, Tennessee plummeted 12 spots in the AP poll to Not 23. The Vols moved up two spots to No. 21 a week, later, dropped to No. 22 on October 1. They moved back up three spots two weeks ago, to No. 19 overall, and moved up two spots last week to No. 17.
Tennessee was ranked No. 15 in the USA Today Coaches Poll last week, moving up two spots after the win over Texas A&M. The Vols started the season at No. 10 in the Coaches Poll in the preseason rankings, released on August 7. They were ranked as high as No. 9 in the Coaches Poll before dropping 10 spots to No. 20 after the loss at Florida.
