Tennessee football is a consensus top-ten team entering Week 2. The Vols moved up one spot in this week’s updated Coach Poll, going from No. 10 to No. 9 after beating Virginia 49-13 on Saturday at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, and moved up three spots in the Associated Press Top 25, going from No. 12 to No. 9.

The Vols (1-0) host Austin Peay (0-1) on Saturday in their home opener at Neyland Stadium. Tennessee entered the season ranked No. 10 in the USA Today Coaches Preseason Poll and were No. 12 in the Associated Press Preseason Top 25.

Three teams in the preseason AP Top 25 lost over the weekend. Colorado won 45-42 on the road at No. 17 TCU, No. 5 LSU lost 45-24 to No. 8 Florida State Sunday night, and No. 9 Clemson lost 28-7 at Duke Monday night.

LSU dropped nine spots in the Coaches Poll, going from No. 5 to No. 14. Clemson dropped 12 spots, going from No. 9 to No. 21. Duke went from not ranked to ranked No. 24 and Colorado entered the Coaches Poll at No. 25.

Tennessee hosts Austin Peay on Saturday in the home opener at Neyland Stadium. The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. Eastern Time start and can be seen as an online live stream via ESPN+ or SEC Network+.

The Vols on Monday morning announce they’ll wear a new ‘Artful Dodger’ version of their Smokey Grey uniform on Saturday, honoring the 51st anniversary of Tennessee’s Condredge Holloway becoming the first Black starting quarterback in the Southeastern Conference.

Austin Peay opened its season on the road on Saturday, losing 49-23 at Southern Illinois. 

Week 1: Tennessee 49, Virginia 13

Joe Milton III completed 21 of 30 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns and ran nine times for 33 yards and two more scores on the ground. The Vols rushed 52 times as a team for 287 yards and five touchdowns. 

Sophomore running back Dylan Sampson scored four touchdowns — three rushing, one receiving — on just 14 touches. He rushed 13 times for 52 yards and had four touchdowns on the ground and opened the scoring with a 9-yard touchdown catch early in the first quarter.

Jaylen Wright led Tennessee on the ground with 115 yards on 12 carries, his third career game with 100-plus yards on the ground. Jabari Small carried 13 times for 67 yards.

Sophomore slot receiver Squirrel White had six catches for 45 yards and Ramel Keytoncaught three passes for 66 yards.
