Where Tennessee Football is ranked in the Coaches Poll, AP Top 25 after beating Kentucky
Tennessee Football moved up one spot to No. 6 in the updated Coaches Poll on Sunday, following the 28-18 win over Kentucky Saturday night at Neyland Stadium. The Vols stayed at No. 7 The Associated Press Top 25.
No. 3 Penn State lost 20-13 at home to No. 4 Ohio State on Saturday afternoon, dropping four spots to No. 7 in the Coaches Poll on Sunday. Oregon remains No. 1, ahead of Georgia, Ohio State, Miami and Texas in the top five. Penn State dropped to No. 6 in the AP Top 25, which had the same top five as the AP Top 25.
Tennessee (7-1, 4-1 SEC) stays home this week to host Mississippi State (2-7, 0-5) I na 7 p.m. Eastern Time start at Neyland Stadium. The game will be televised by ESPN.

Tennessee has a 29-16-1 all-time record against Mississippi State, in a series that dates back to November 1907. The Vols have won 10 of the last 12, dating back to 1987, after State won three straight between 1978 and 1986.
In 2019 Tennessee was 1-4 when Mississippi State came to Neyland Stadium, after losses to Georgia State, BYU, Florida and Georgia. The Vols won 20-10 to start a run of seven wins over the final eight games of the season, including six straight to end the year.
Mississippi State beat Tennessee 41-31 in Starkville in October 2012, after the Vols had won six straight in the series (1995, 1998, 2002, 2003, 2007 and 2008).

Tennessee hasn’t lost a home game to Mississippi State since September 1986, when the Bulldogs won 27-23 in Knoxville.The Vols won 34-3 in 2008, 59-21 in 2003, 52-14 in 1995 and 26-24 in 1991.
Where Tennessee Football has been ranked this season
Tennessee dropped to No. 8 in both the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll after the 19-14 loss at Arkansas two weeks ago, falling from No. 4 in the AP poll and No. 5 in the Coaches Poll.
The Vols had made steady climbs in both rankings after lopsided wins over Chattanooga (69-3), North Carolina State (51-10) and Kent State (71-0) and the 25-15 win at Oklahoma.
The AP Poll moved Tennessee up to No. 14 in Week 2, No. 7 in Week 3, No. 6 in Week 4 and No. 5 two weeks ago. The Coaches Poll had the Vols at No. 12 in Week 2, No. 9 in Week 3, No. 7 in Week 4 and No. 6 two weeks ago.
Tennessee moved up one spot to No. 4 in both the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll last week during the open date. The Vols started the season ranked No. 15 in both the Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25.
