Tennessee football is ranked 16th in the 2024 Consensus Football Team Recruiting Rankings after adding a commitment from three-star in-state athlete Marcus Goree on Saturday night. The Vols are currently eighth in the SEC.
Goree, the 6-foot-1, 170-pound prospect out of Bradley Central High School in Cleveland, Tenn., picked the Vols over Louisville, Mississippi State and Notre Dame, among others. He’s ranked No. 70 among athletes in the 2024 class in the On3 rankings and is the No. 18 overall prospect in the state of Tennessee.
“It was close to home and my parents liked Tennessee and the coaching staff loves me,” Goree told Volquest’s Austin Price. “I know some of the players up there and some other people going up there so it already felt like home.”
“I like (defensive back coach Willie) Martinez for what he sees in me,” Goree added. “He loves his instate prospects and he wants me to go far. I can tell by the way he talks to me. The coaching staff they all know me and follow me and they treat me like I’m a player already on the team.”
Marcus Goree is fourth commitment for Vols in 2024
Goree is the fourth commitment for the Vols in the 2024 class, joining four-star athlete Jonathan Echols, four-star in-state cornerback Kaleb Beasley and three-star in-state defensive lineman Carson Gentle.
Echols, the highest-ranked commitment in the class so far, was Tennessee first commitment in 2024, announcing his pledge to the Vols on July 4. He’s ranked No. 37 overall in the 2024 class. He’s ranked No. 3 among athletes and is the No. 10 overall prospect in the state of Georgia. The 6-foot-3.5, 215-pound Echols, a native of Franklin, Ga., attends IMG Academy in Florida.
Beasley, the 6-foot-0.5, 180-pound corner out of Nashville’s Lipscomb Academy, committed to the Vols in October. He’s ranked No. 121 overall in the class and is the No. 11 corner nationally. He’s the No. 2 in-state prospect in 2024.
