Tennessee opens as big favorite for Homecoming game vs. UConn

Tennessee football on Sunday opened as a 30-point favorite for Saturday’s Homecoming game against UConn at Neyland Stadium, according to Circa Sports. The Vols and Huskies are scheduled for a Noon Eastern Time start. The game will be televised by SEC Network.

Tennessee entered Saturday night’s game as a 3.5-point favorite at Kentucky and won 33-27 to improve to 5-3 record against the spread on the season. The Vols covered against South Carolina (-11.5), UTSA (-23.5) and Virginia (-27.5) and failed to cover against Austin Peay (-48.5), at Florida (-5.5) and at Alabama (+8.5).

UConn this season is 4-4 against the spread this season, covering against North Carolina State (+14.5), Utah State (+4), Rice (+10) and Boston College (+14.5). The Huskies failed to cover against Georgia State (+3), Florida International (-7), Duke (+22) and South Florida (-1).

UConn, coming off a 21-14 loss at Boston College on Saturday, picked up its first win of the season on October 7, beating Rice on the road 38-31. The Huskies started the season 0-5 with losses to North Carolina State (24-14), Georgia State (35-14), Florida International (24-17), Duke (41-7) and Utah State (34-33).

Jim Mora is in his second season as UConn’s head coach, after leading the Huskies to a 6-7 record and an appearance in the Myrtle Beach Bowl last season. Mora went 46-30 in six seasons as UCLA’s head coach (2012-17) and went 31-33 in four seasons as an NFL head coach with the Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks.

UConn led 7-0 in the first quarter at Boston College on Saturday, only to see BC score 21 unanswered points, taking control in the second half.

UConn quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson completed 11 of 24 passes for 130 yards, without a touchdown or interception in the loss. Camryn Edwards rushed 16 times for 89 yards and a touchdown as the Huskies went for 92 yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns as a team. Geordon Porter caught three passes for 47 yards.
