Tennessee Football announces uniform combination for Florida game

Tennessee Football will be back in its traditional home uniform, with orange jerseys and white pants, for Saturday night’s game against Florida. The annual ‘Checker Neyland’ game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. Eastern Time start on ESPN.

The Vols (4-1, 1-1 SEC) will be wearing their traditional home uniform at Neyland Stadium for the first time this season. Tennessee opened the season in its Smokey Grey alternate uniform in the 69-3 win over Chattanooga on August 31 and wore orange jerseys and orange pants against Kent State in the 71-0 win on September 14.

Tennessee wore white jerseys and white pants in the 51-10 win over North Carolina State in the Duke’s Mayo Classic on September 7 and the 25-15 win at Oklahoma two weeks later. The Vols wore white jerseys and orange pants in the 19-14 loss at Arkansas on Saturday night.

Tennessee Football’s uniform options

The Smokey Grey alternate, part of the Smokey Grey Series, paid tribute to the Volunteer State, with the jersey featuring the Tri-Star logo on the sleeve, Tennessee across the chest and an an altered helmet stripe and pants stripe mimicked the state flag.

Alternate uniforms have been a constant during the Josh Heupel era. The Vols introduced their Dark Mode alternate uniform in 2021, with black pants and black jerseys, with orange numbers and orange pants stripes. An all-black helmet, with an orange Power T and orange helmet stripe, was added in 2022.

Tennessee also debuted an alternate orange helmet for the first time in program history at South Carolina in 2022. The Smokey Grey alternate returned in 2022.

The Tennessee-Florida Series

Florida holds a 32-21 advantage in the all-time series against Tennessee, which dates back to 1916. The Gators won 29-16 in Gainesville last season, after the Vols won 38-33 in Knoxville in 2022.

The win at Neyland two years ago snapped a five-year losing streak to Florida. Tennessee won 38-28 in Knoxville in 2016, snapping another run of 11 straight losses in the series. The Vols won three of four between 2001 and 2004, including wins in Gainesville in 2001 and 2023, and won 20-17 in overtime in 1998 on the way to a 13-0 season and the BCS national championship.

Tennessee won the first 10 meetings, between 1916 and 1953, before Florida won two of three between 1957 and 1969. The Gators won five of six between 1976 and 1991 and won five straight between 1993 and 1997.
