Tennessee opens as double-digit road favorite at Vanderbilt

Tennessee Football opened as a 12.5-point favorite for next week’s game at Vanderbilt, according to odds from FanDuel. The Vols close the regular-season schedule next Saturday in a Noon Eastern Time start in Nashville. The game will be televised by ABC.
Tennessee (8-2) hosts UTEP (2-8) this week on Senior Day at Neyland Stadium, a 1 p.m. Eastern Time start streaming on SEC Network+. Vanderbilt goes to LSU for a 7:45 ET start Saturday night on SEC Network.
Tennessee is 5-5 against the spread this season but has failed to cover in its three games and five of its last six.
The Vols started the season with four straight covers, against Chattanooga (-39.5), North Carolina State (-8.5), Kent State (-49) and Oklahoma (-5.5). They have failed to cover against Arkansas (-14), Florida (-14), Kentucky (-17.5), Mississippi State (-9) and Georgia (+9).
Tennessee’s last cover was as a 3.5-point home underdog against Alabama on October 19, when the Vols won outright 24-17.
Vanderbilt is 7-3 against the spread, covering against Virginia Tech (+13.5), Alcorn State (-33.5), Missouri (+17.5), Alabama (+22.5), Kentucky (+12.5), Texas (+17) and Auburn (+7.5). Vandy did not cover against Georgia State (-8.5), Ball State (-27.5) and South Carolina (+6).
Tennessee on Saturday is a 41.5-point home favorite against UTEP. LSU is a 7.5-point favorite at home against Vanderbilt.

A Closer Look: The Vanderbilt Commodores
Vanderbilt started the season 5-2 with home wins over Alabama and Virginia Tech and a road win at Kentucky. The two losses came at Georgia State, 36-32 on September 14, and in double overtime at Missouri a week later, 30-27.
The Commodores enter this week having lost two of their last three, losing 27-24 to Texas at home on October 26 and 28-7 at home against South Carolina on November 9. In between was a 17-7 road win at Auburn.
Transfer quarterback Diego Pavia has starred for Vandy this season, throwing for 1,843 yards and 15 touchdowns and rushing for 628 yards and five more touchdowns after transferring from New Mexico State.
Pavia had 308 total yards and two touchdowns in the 40-35 upset of Alabama on October 5. He has thrown two touchdown passes in seven of Vandy’s 10 games so far and has rushed for 50 or more yards in eight games, including a season-high 104 yards against Virginia Tech on August 31.
