Tennessee opened the new season with a 49-13 win over Virginia on Saturday in a neutral-site game at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

Joe Milton III completed 21 of 30 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns and ran nine times for 33 yards and two more scores on the ground. The Vols rushed 52 times as a team for 287 yards and five touchdowns. 

Sophomore running back Dylan Sampson scored four touchdowns — three rushing, one receiving — on just 14 touches. He rushed 13 times for 52 yards and had four touchdowns on the ground and opened the scoring with a 9-yard touchdown catch early in the first quarter.

Jaylen Wright led Tennessee on the ground with 115 yards on 12 carries, his third career game with 100-plus yards on the ground. Jabari Small carried 13 times for 67 yards.

Sophomore slot receiver Squirrel White had six catches for 45 yards and Ramel Keyton caught three passes for 66 yards.
