Start time, TV info for No. 12 Tennessee's game against Virginia

No. 12 Tennessee will open the new season against Virginia on Saturday at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. The neutral-site game is scheduled to start at Noon Eastern Time and will be televised by ABC.

The start time for Saturday’s game was announced in May. So far three games on Tennessee’s schedule have kickoff times and TV designations announced. The Vols open the home schedule against Austin Peay on September 9, a 5 p.m. ET start streaming on ESPN+/SEC Network+. They’ll open SEC play at Florida on September 16, a 7 p.m. Eastern Time start on ESPN.

Tennessee has a run of three straight home games in a four-week span against UTSA (September 23), South Carolina (September 30) and Texas A&M (October 14). The Vols go to Alabama on October 21 and Kentucky on October 28. 

Three of the four November games are at home, with UConn in Knoxville for homecoming on November 4, a trip to Missouri on November 11 and home games against Georgia on November 18 and Vanderbilt on November 25 to close the regular-season schedule.

Where the Vols are ranked

The Vols open the season ranked No. 10 in the USA Today Coaches Top 25 and are No. 12 in the Associated Press Top 25. Tennessee is ranked No. 6 in ESPN’s SP+ ratings, with the No. 2 offensive rating and No. 32 defensive rating.

At SEC Media Days in July, Tennessee was picked to finish second in the SEC East and fourth overall in the SEC in the preseason media poll.

The Vols received 14 first-place votes in the SEC East, finishing behind Georgia and its 265 votes. Tennessee at No. 2 came in ahead of South Carolina, Kentucky, Florida and Missouri. South Carolina received three first-place votes, Kentucky received one and Vanderbilt, picked the finish last in the division, received eight first-place votes.

Georgia was picked to win the SEC ahead of Alabama, LSU and Tennessee.

Tennessee is a four-TD favorite against Virginia

Tennessee opened as a 28-point favorite against Virginia back in May and that’s where the line still is to start game week. Virginia is ranked No. 76 in ESPN’s SP+ ratings, rated No. 120 overall on offense and No. 21 on defense.

The Cavaliers went 3-7 last season, including 1-6 in ACC play. They opened the season with a 34-17 win over Richmond, beat Old Dominion 16-14 two weeks later and won at Georgia Tech in October. 

VegasInsider has lines for four Tennessee football games as of Sunday. After opening the season as a four-touchdown favorite, the Vols are a 7.5-point favorite at Florida on September 16, 9.5-point underdogs at Alabama on October 21 and a 7.5-point home underdog against Georgia on November 18.
