Updating the betting line for Tennessee-Ohio State in the College Football Playoff
Tennessee opened as a 7.5-point underdog at Ohio State when the College Football Playoff bracket was set on December 8. The line has gone virtually unchanged in the two weeks since then, leading up to Saturday night’s first round game at Ohio Stadium.
As of Friday night, the Vols were still a consensus 7.5-point underdog, according to The Action Network, with the total set at 46.5. The Action Network also had 68% of bets on Tennessee.
No. 9 Tennessee (10-2) and No. 8 Ohio State (10-2) are scheduled for an 8 p.m. Eastern Time start Saturday night on ABC and ESPN. The winner will advance to face No. 1 Oregon in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., on New Year’s Day.
The first round started Friday night with No. 7 Notre Dame beating No. 10 Indiana 27-17 at Notre Dame Stadium. Saturday’s playoff triple header will begin with No. 11 SMU at No. 6 Penn State in a Noon ET game and will be followed by No. 12 Clemson at No. 5 Texas in a 4 p.m. start on TNT and streaming on HBO Max.
Notre Dame advances to face No. 2 Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. The SMU-Penn State winner will play No. 3 Boise State in the Peach Bowl and the Clemson-Texas winner will face No. 4 Arizona State in the Fiesta Bowl.

Tennessee Football against the spread this season
Tennessee went 7-5 against the spread during the regular season. The Vols 3-5 against the spread over the final eight games, winning outright as a 3.5-point underdog against Alabama and covering a 41-point line against UTEP and a 10-point spread at Vanderbilt
The season started with four straight covers, against Chattanooga (-39.5), North Carolina State (-8.5), Kent State (-49) and Oklahoma (-5.5). Tennessee failed to cover against Arkansas (-14), Florida (-14), Kentucky (-17.5), Mississippi State (-9) and Georgia (+9).
Ohio State went 6-6 against the spread, ending the regular season with the 13-10 home loss to Michigan as a 19.5-point favorite.
The Buckeyes covered against Western Michigan (-37.5), Michigan State (-23.5), Iowa (-17), Penn State (-3), Purdue (-37.5) and Indiana (-10.5). They failed to cover against Akron (-48.5), Marshall (-40), Oregon (-3.5), Nebraska (-25) and Northwestern (-28), before the loss to Michigan.
