Tennessee is not only rewarding head coach Josh Heupel with a new deal, Heupel’s boss has received a raise as well, making him the highest paid athletic director in the SEC in a story first reported by SI’s Ross Dellenger

Vice Chancellor and director of athletics Danny White has received an additional year on his contract and has a new salary of 2.2 million dollars. White made just under $1.9 million in 2022.

White’s previous deal was a 5 year agreement with an automatic rollover every year. His new deal is a 6 year agreement with an automatic rollover every year.

White is also guaranteed a 5% raise each year, so in 2024, White will make 2.31 million dollars.

If White were to leave the University by his choice, he would owe the school one year of the salary he was making at the time he left provided Donde Plowman is still the chancellor. If Plowman is not here then White would owe the school 50% or half of annual salary at the time of his departure.

If the University were to fire White without cause, they would owe him, his full contract, which means they would owe him in excess of 11 million dollars.
