Tennessee's Bru McCoy accepts invitation to the Reese's Senior Bowl
Tennessee wide receiver Bru McCoy is healing and will soon begins preparations for the college football playoff. However whenever that playoff run ends, it won’t be McCoy’s last collegiate event as the receiver has accepted an invitation to play in the Reese’s Senior Bowl.
McCoy, who was named a semifinalist for the college football comeback player of the year, has 35 catches for 432 yards and two touchdowns. McCoy was back this season after nearly a year of rehab following an ankle/lower leg injury that required multiple surgeries.
McCoy is one of the Vols biggest leaders. Quarterback Nico Iamaleava has credited the senior with helping him manage the chaos of his first year as a starter.
“Just a lot of helping him try to manage pressure and dealing with a lot of expectations,” McCoy said. “He’s done a great job in how he’s carried himself, how he’s been a leader on the team. So I just tried to kind of help show him in an easier path, not making similar mistakes to myself.

“And just creating good habits and setting like daily things, things that have helped me since I’m just an older guy. So kind of trying to get him to skip some steps and learning lessons.”
McCoy has also been a leader in the community. He’s read to various schools, he’s raised money for cancer research through his golf tournament and he’s a part of the Huddle for Hearts foundation.
After missing Saturday’s regular season finale with a tender hamstring, McCoy is focused on rehabbing for a playoff run then turn his sights on a pro career starting with a week in Mobile at the senior bowl.
Defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott has also accepted an invitation to the senior bowl.
