Top-100 Vols' WR commit Tyreek King announces he has shut down his recruitment

The last time Volquest spoke with Tyreek King on the record was in March after another visit to Tennessee, in which he spent time on campus with five-star quarterback Faizon Brandon and others.
At the time, King was hearing from a number of schools, with a pair of BIG Ten programs, in Maryland and USC pushing King to take an official visit in the coming months. It was something he was weighing out at the time, as he was open to listen to other programs.
King has continued to receive plenty of attention from college programs across the country after a strong Junior Season at Catholic, but on Monday evening, he revealed that he has shut down his recruitment ahead of official visit season.
“What made me go into lockdown with Tennessee was my relationship with the coaches,” the top-100 pass-catcher told Volquest following the announcement. “When I look at Tennessee I could see myself being a big part of what they do on offense. I have been growing up in Knoxville and always been a fan and always wanted to play college ball for the city I grew up in.”

King is currently slated for his official visit to Rocky Top the weekend of June 20th, which is shaping up to be a massive visit date on the schedule for the Vols.
What are the Vols getting in Tyreek King?
“Tyreek is a dynamic receiver and is having a great year at Knoxville Catholic which led to his rise in the recent On300,” On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power told Volquest in October at the time of his commitment to Tennessee. “For starters, he has an electric playmaker and a guy who can stress defenses in multiple different ways. Tyreek King has shown the ability to win at kind of every level so far as a junior. He has the play speed to take the top off of defenses as a deep threat. He is effective at working over the middle. He has the ball skills and tracking ability and is also very dangerous after the catch with the ball in his hands. So, I just came away impressed with the diversity of skills that he has at this stage, his kind of well-roundedness, and the dynamic playmaking he has shown. I think he plays with an attitude, and it’s easy to see he wants to score every time he touches the ball. That’s shown up this year at Knoxville Catholic, and he is averaging around a touchdown on around one out of every three catches. So he is a threat to score any time he touches the ball.”
“I think when you look at what he’s bringing to Tennessee, he adds a jolt of playmaking,” Power added. “I think he gives Tennessee a type of receiver that fits really well in Josh Heupel’s offense just with his ability to separate at multiple levels. I think when you pair him with a guy like Mike Matthews and the other receivers they have recruited in the last couple of classes, that’s a good, young nucleus of receiver talent. Just with his ability to win at every level and make a bunch of plays with the ball in his hand has to be exciting for Tennessee fans. And, of course, keeping a local prospect at home is always exciting too. I am excited to keep evaluating him, but there’s no doubt this was a big get for Tennessee, and he was one of our favorite receivers just in going through this recent rankings update.”
