Transfer tailback Star Thomas breaks down commitment to Tennessee
Tennessee added another piece to the running back room as Duke transfer Star Thomas committed to the Vols. He will arrive early in the week and get ready to begin his final year in Knoxville.
“Just being around coach Heup and coach Sims, they were honest from the very first day they called me in the portal,” Thomas said. “They let me know the situation and what the situation was and it was something that I felt like I could be a part of and wanted to be a part of. Real coaches, players coaches that want to be around their players and entertain and that drew me to them.”
The Vols needed another back and after totaling over 1,000 yards at Duke this past season, Thomas feels like he can bring something to Tennessee.
“I feel like I’ll bring a lot to the table,” Thomas said. “Experience, running the ball patient, vision and just all around. I feel like I can bring the whole nine yards to the team. With Dylan leaving this year I feel like I can step in with the other couple of backs and step in and be someone they can learn from with me being in the game so long. Really be a mentor to them and show them what it takes.”
Thomas can’t wait to get to work with his new group.
“I feel like I will mesh good with the guys,” Thomas said. “I’m ready to get back here and start with the guys.”

He had a feeling coming into the visit that Tennessee would be special, but it was on the visit that he knew he had found his place.
“During the visit I got that feeling that this will be the spot,” Thomas said. “The coaches were so down to earth. They were just real and honest and that’s what I want to be around.”
He will look to follow fellow Louisiana native Dylan Sampson to success at Tennessee. He looks forward to the challenge.
“It’s great,” Thomas said. “This is what I’ve been dreaming of since I was a kid. Especially with where I come from. Not many people get this opportunity and I’m looking to put on for my city and show there is more life than Louisiana.”
