Vol Club Confidential: Alberto Osuna

Tennessee transfer first baseman Alberto Osuna hasn’t yet played in a game with the Vols due to being declared ineligible by the NCAA. Instead, the former junior college player turned North Carolina slugger has been forced to watch from the dugout and play a different role. He joined Vol Club Confidential sponsored by Knoxville Smiles to talk about his status and more,
“It’s been extremely hard,” Osuna said. “I feel like I have tried my best to show that it isn’t and keep a positive mind. Hopefully something positive comes out of it if there was a change that would allow me to play. It’s definitely been hard. Especially seeing other guys be able to get that junior college season back and so far I haven’t heard that I will be getting it back so it has been pretty tough.”
A judge denied Osuna’s motion for preliminary injunction that would have granted him immediate eligibility. This comes after his temporary retraining order was first denied weeks earlier. Osuna filed an official complaint against the NCAA in federal court days before the season-opener as the organization had yet to grant him transfer eligibility. The Starr, players and fans have rallied behind him and he has soaked up their support.
“I think it just shows the family that Tennessee has,” Osuna said, “Obviously my teammates but the coaching staff and also the fans. The support I have been getting the past two weeks since I blew up has been phenomenal. It’s really been a blessing.”

And while he could have played this season at a lower division school in Tampa, Osuna has no regrets in coming to Tennessee.
“I’m still happy I’m here,” Osuna said. “I’ve gotten to learn a lot from coach Vitello, coach E and coach Kivet, just everybody on the staff and let’s not forget coach Q. I think he is the best in the business. They have all been phenomenal and I’ve barely been here but feel like I’ve been here for a year. The fans are just getting behind me and it’s truly been a blessing.”
