Tennessee safety Andre Turrentine is a Tennessee kid, who grew up watching Jauan Jennings and others wear the orange. Now he is living out his dream and joined Vol Club Confidential sponsored by Knoxville Smiles this week to discuss his path.

“It was home even before I got here,” Turrentine said. “Being an instate guy and being up here as early as I can remember in 8th grade. Just the culture at Tennessee and Tennessee’s culture has been instilled in me even before but now being here for three years and seeing it for real it’s a part of me for sure.”

Turrentine is now seeing substantial time after playing as a reserve his first couple of seasons. He got his first start late last season and has seen his game expand.

“I feel like I’ve grown tremendously,” Turrentine said. “I’ve become more smart as a player and more confident in my skill. My skillset has grown from offseason to camp and from camp to the year. Just leading the guys the best way I can has helped me grow confidence as well.”

So what is his favorite part of the process?

“Just being every day with my guys,” Turrentine said. “Having the opportunity to be in the locker room with them every day. Grow with them and seeing how that growth translates to Saturday. Not just on the field but outside the locker room so we can grow together as a group.”

And his relationship with Tim Banks has taught him how to be serious about his craft,

“His presence as a leader in my life has allowed me to understand the times I need to be more business like or take it more serious than others,” Turrentine said. “My personality allows me to see the fun in all things and allows me to have fun in even the most serious situations. Outside looking in, you might see a more business like approach because understanding we need to have that mindset.”
