Tennessee redshirt junior Bryson Eason arrived on Rocky Top as an oversized linebacker. Four years on campus and he suits up as a super athletic interior defensive lineman. He has improved so much in his time at Tennessee.

“It’s been crazy,” Eason said. “I just still love to play football no matter my size. I’ve just been enjoying it,”

As for where he has improved, Eason has seen himself really make strides under Rodney Garner.

“My game has gotten better with the details that come with the game and understanding the blocks I might get,” Eason said, “Everything has been so attention to detail with Coach G and that’s how you take your game to the next level. I’m athletic and have all the skill sets. When you come into the SEC you play guys with the same type size and strengths and that’s why you have to be into the details so you can know your keys which helped the game slow down for me.”

Eason admits that he’s having as much fun now as he did in high school. He is constantly dancing after he makes a play or after his teammates make a play.

“The majority of the guys that are out there with me on the defensive line is our class of 2020,” Eason said, “I’ve just been around them for years and years and we have built bonds and friendships. We are playing for each other. There is a bigger goal so we want to go out there and have fun and produce and show the world we are one of the legit defensive lines in college football.”

Eason is a Memphis kid who starred at Whitehaven during his four years in high school. He thrived playing for legendary Whitehaven head coach Rodney Saulsberry.

“Just the grit and the grind we gave out every summer,” Eason said. “Just the culture and standard they set for me coming in as a freshman and how hard they worked and how together they were with the brotherhood. It’s just all bonded into one and just made me in a want to be great football player.

“We took so much pride into being the best school in the city. It was if we aren’t practicing on thanksgiving it was a bust. It could have been all four years but my senior year we lost in the third round. It still hurts. The Haven made me who I am today.
