Vol Club Confidential: Dean Curley

Tennessee sophomore infielder Dean Curley joined Vol Club Confidential sponsored by Knoxville Smiles to detail the growth in his game as one of the key leaders with Vol baseball this spring.
“The role is a little different,” Curley said. “We lost C-Mo, Billy and Burke but we have new guys feeling the shoes with Fish, Kilen and myself. Just being more a bigger impact this year I would say.”
And that includes being more vocal this year.
“It started picking up as the season went on last year but now I understand everything that has to be done so there is a lot more vocalism out of me,” Curley said.
Curley changed numbers before this season. He moved from #23 to #1 and did so because he was asked to by a player that he could not say no to.

“With C-Mo leaving there was no #1,” Curley said. “C-Mo was saying #1 was a special number that gets passed down and said I want you to wear it and that is sick. I took it and ran with it.”
Curley is starting at shortstop again, but has played some third base early in the season to show his versatility. He has also moved up from the seven spot in the lineup to the lead off position, which is giving him more at bats. Curley finished his freshman campaign with freshman All-American honors and began this spring as a preseason All-American.
