Vol Club Confidential: Jermod McCoy and Rickey Gibson
Tennessee has a pair of cornerbacks who are constantly making plays. Both Jermod McCoy and Rickey Gibson joined Vol Club Confidential sponsored by Knoxville Smiles to discuss their pairing and success.
“I just feel like the preparation we have been prepared with,” Gibson said. “Coach ET does a great job of going into the details of what we are going to see and what we have been seeing is what we have been getting. He has just really been honing in on the details.”
The confidence is certainly there for both and it’s reflective in how they play between the white lines.
“Me and Rick just love getting hands on,” McCoy said. “I think for me if I don’t get my hands on you the way I want, I feel like I lost the rep but there are sometimes you have to mix it in where you aren’t as physical with your hands. But for the most part I like to get my hands on them.”
The improvement is evident to some but is it crystal clear to someone like Gibson, who played some last year but not as much as he would have liked.

“I’d say I’ve definitely grown but I have way more improvement,” Gibson said. “Just looking at myself and my body language on the field, I have way more areas to improve in. Back to my freshman year I’ve improved in the physicality part and trying to grow in that as well.”
