Vol Club Confidential: Jordan Gainey & Jahmai Mashack
Tennessee seniors Jordan Gainey and Jahmai Mashack wrapped up their home career on Saturday with a win over South Carolina. They joined Vol Club Confidential sponsored by Knoxville Smiles to detail their careers on Rocky Top.
“It’s very tough,” Mashack on how to balance the emotions versus an unfinished job. “Just because you want to get caught into the history, the four years you have been here and the two years (Gainey) was here and appreciating the moment but you still want to win. You also know you have a job to do and that’s to go out in the tournament and go as far as you can. You appreciate it and you notice you have had a good long career but still have work to do and can make history in signifying your legacy even more if you play well in the tournament.”
Which also means staying locked in as the Vols head off to the SEC tournament this week in Nashville.

“I’d say just staying focused on the task at hand and let the emotions come at the very end,” Gainey said. “There are a lot of emotions going on and when you find yourself getting away from that and getting too emotional then you stepped off the course. We have to stay the course and stay focused on our goals we have had this entire year.”
So what do they like most about this team?
“This team is special,” Mashack said. “I’m going to call it now, but this team is going to have a documentary someday. Everything it’s gone through. The ups and downs and the leaps we have had to get through. The goals we have had from the beginning of the year. It’s even harder for people to look at from the outside. When you are in it and everyone that’s been in it knows what I’m talking about. The stuff we have had to go through individually and as a team facing adversity and fighting through it to get to the same goal and that’s to go as far as we can in March.”
