Vol Club Confidential: Tyler Baron and Wesley Walker
When Wesley Walker left Georgia Tech a year and a half ago, his step brother, Tyler Baron, got in his ear about the two joining back up on the field at Tennessee.
“He was the first person I talked with,” Walker said. “I was just trying to make sure that the opportunity was really there not just because we are brothers but it really was. I felt like it worked out perfectly and it was the spot for me to come wrap my career up at with college.”
The bond was built over years of growing up around each other on ball fields and it’s a relationship that is through thick and thin.
“To be honest with you it’s a real close bond,” Baron said. “It’s irreplaceable to know you have someone you mess with outside of football and not just on the field. It’s pretty cool.”
Baron has worked hard to build upon his off season growth and maturity off the field. He believes it is paying off with a strong start to the 2023 season.
“Just taking advantage of everything honestly,” Baron said. “Not taking anything for granted. Not saying I was doing it on purpose in the past but just emphasizing how important every day is and how important every detail is and making sure I do everything right.”
Playing for the home state team is something they both take pride in as wearing the orange has come part of their DNA.

“Just being an instate guy,” Walker said. “I didn’t grow up a Tennessee guy but playing for Tennessee you see how much support us behind us. Having your family be able to come to your games when usually they couldn’t when I was in Atlanta is a good feeling as well.”
Last year’s Alabama game was special for so many reasons but it was actually a loss that sticks out on what impact the fans make.
“It actually we didn’t come out on the right side of the game but the 2021 season when we played Ole Miss,” Baron said. “That was when I said man these people really love us and bleed Tennessee. It was unique with a couple missed opportunities during the game but they supported us through all the chaos and they have been behind us.”
The defense had a down week last week but both believe it’s time to bounce back and start making plays.
“I feel like we are still growing and learning,” Walker said. “We have some young guys we have to get snaps now. We are just trying to get better week by week and stack these wins now because we know how important to have that urgency to win. I think we have the potential to be better on defense this year but we have to keep going out and proving it,”
