Volquest 2-Minute Drill: Shut down at The Shoe
COLUMBUS, Ohio — No. 9 Tennessee’sstay in the new 12-team College Football Playoff was over in 12 minutes. No. 8 Ohio State scored three touchdowns on its first three possessions, building an early 21-0 lead and never got challenged in a 42-17 win over the Vols in the first round of the expanded playoff Saturday night at Ohio Stadium.
“Yeah, defensively first series we got a chance to get off the field; end up with a playing penalty,” Josh Heupel said, “Some of that’s going to happen during the course of a game. Had a couple of busts in coverage, and they made some plays, too. That’s going to happen against a good team.
But what we didn’t do is come back and find a way to get on the right side of it, and that’s defensively, offensively; it’s everybody.”

“Well, we’ve got to play better,” Heupel said. “We’ve got to coach better. Ohio State is a good football team. Tonight wasn’t one of our best performances this year, and so at the end of the day we’ve got to continue to grow. We’ll start again and start retooling, rebuilding, and grow as a football team.
“Two years ago, I don’t know, we finished sixth in the country. There’s a standard inside of our building, and we’re going to continue to grow.”
