Tennessee is back inside Neyland Stadium this afternoon to take on UTSA. The Vols are looking to rebound from last week’s loss at Florida.

All eyes will once again be on Cooper Mays in pregame as he continues to work his way back from surgery over six weeks ago. Ollie Lane is scheduled to start again but will Mays be able to get in some reps before the South Carolina Gamecocks come to town next weekend?

Gerald Mincey will be available this week on the offensive side and should help the Vols offensive line that struggled last week in the Swamp with communication and pre-snap penalties.

“Yeah, we charted every single practice since I I’ve been here. But certainly this year too from spring ball to training camp, all those things, why it transpired the way that it did last week, I don’t have an exact reason,” Josh Heupel said. “I do think the momentum of the game, we didn’t reset from play to play and you can’t do that in this game. That was a point of emphasis just in my communication to them last week. We do have new guys inside of what we’re doing. You look at the left side of the offense, from center all the way over, those are new guys inside of our system. Tight ends are new. So some of those things are growing pains and when I say growing pains, not that you have to have those things during the course of the season, man, they gotta settle in. They gotta do their job at a high level.”

On the flip side, UTSA will be without one of its key players. They started the season with a 17-14 loss at Houston three weeks ago. The next week was a win over Texas State in UTSA’s home opener, a week after Texas State upset Baylor in Waco. Army beat UTSA without redshirt senior quarterback Frank Harris, who missed the game due to a turf toe injury, making way for Eddie Lee Marburgerto throw three touchdown passes in his first start. Harris will be out with the toe injury again this week.
