Volquest Blankets The Tennessee Targets Across The Tar Heel State

CHARLOTTE — The Volquest staff was spread out all over the state of North Carolina on Friday night. Tennessee commit David Sanders is loving being committed to Tennessee and having lots of orange in town this weekend.

“I’m so excited,” Sanders said. “I’m excited to go watch them tomorrow. I’m glad to be a commit, a lot of pressure off my shoulders I get to rep Tennessee each and every week and show I’m committed to the Vols.

“The recruiting still hasn’t changed. Everyone is still calling me and stuff but I know where I want to be. Tennessee has been doing a great job too. They haven’t been giving anyone a reason to take over.”

Up in Greensboro, Vol pledge Faizon Brandon got a big win on Friday night.

“I think I did pretty good at executing and making smart decisions today,” Brandon said. “Whenever they would drop everyone back I would take the yards I could get and make plays with my legs. People don’t see that often and it’s one of the skills I have. Just working the game plan we had.”

Back down in Charlotte at Myers Park, 4-star edge Rodney Dunham is excited to see James Pearce play on Saturday.

“I look up to him a lot,” Dunham said. “He wins a lot with speed. He is long and built the same. Same height and everything. I look up to him and always watch his high school highlights and his college highlights as well.”

The Tar Heel State is very important to Josh Heupel and company and the recruits feel it.

“It’s huge (North Carolina),” Heupel said. “Historically when Tennessee is good, they are recruiting well in North Carolina. We have been intentional in building relationships over there. We are starting to get guys from that area. There is really good football and really good athletes there. This is a unique opportunity for us to go play on a neutral site in an area that is a fertile recruiting ground for us.

“The power T brand is huge. It’s an iconic brand in sports. First round draft picks, hall of famers, college football hall of famers, all of those things. There is so much history here. It’s been fun watching Vol nation return to what it always has been. We are still continuing to get better as a program, but you can feel the energy within it and that’s why we have had the success that we have had recruiting. It’s why we have had success in Charlotte and all over North Carolina because the kids can feel it over there too.”
