It was in August of 1997, Peyton Manning was a senior and I was off to Phillip Fulmer’s second pre-season scrimmage of fall camp. That scrimmage was always a night scrimmage in Neyland Stadium.

Before getting to the ball yard it was a stop at Schlotzsky’s deli on the strip, where I met up with some guys from Nashville. There was a guy in the group who spent dinner talking about how the world of covering recruiting was changing. There would be no highlights on VHS or even DVD’s. It was all going to be on the internet. Highlights, games, databases of players names by state, position, etc. etc.

At the time my email address read @mindspring.com and high speed internet was something I hadn’t heard of. But this guy was convinced recruiting coverage on the internet was the wave of the future.

He was right and for the last 25 years that guy, Shannon Terry, has been setting the standard in recruiting coverage. He’s done it at multiple places and he’s done it with great people. Shannon got me started with Volquest and that’s why I’m beyond excited to be rejoining him and his great team at On3.

When Shannon Terry called me about his newest venture in On3, his only ask was for me to listen and see what I thought. After meeting with him in his makeshift home office and heading back to Knoxville, I recalled that meeting in 1997. Shannon Terry was ahead of the game then and he’s remained that way. On3 is a combination of all the best things he has created over the last couple of decades. And I know it will pave the way for the next generation of college sports coverage on all platforms and mediums.

Our entire crew at Volquest is excited to be a part of the On3 family. And it truly is a family, I’m excited to rejoin working with some I worked with years ago just as I’m excited to join those who I was working with weeks ago. It is indeed the very best of the best in all categories.

At Volquest, Tennessee fans are going to get a better version of what we have done for the last 22 years which is breaking news, great content in all mediums, an unmatched database and most importantly a great community sharing their passion of all things Tennessee. It’s a community that will laugh with each other, argue with each other, cry with each other and pray for each other because that’s what families do.

So Tennessee fans, welcome to Volquest, your home for all things orange. We have a terrific offer for you to join our family. And we can’t wait to see you here.

And by the way, welcome to gameday as the Vols host Ball State and I step into the booth to watch my 300th consecutive Vol football game live and in person.
