Vols bolster secondary as Colorado transfer Colton Hood talks Tennessee commitment

One of the best to enter the portal this spring is Colorado corner Colton Hood. The Georgia native announced his choice to play at Tennessee and he talked with Volquest about what drove his decision.
“Just the culture and the history about it,” Hood said. “I mean, they got a lot of great players to come through here and just the culture. And also I like the genuineness of the coaches. Coach Heupel, coach ET, coach Banks, coach Martinez, all of them. I mean, they’re just all genuine. I just really like what they had to say about the university.”
Tennessee targeted Hood the moment he entered the portal. They see a player who can blossom at Tennessee with three years remaining.
As a redshirt freshman last season, Hood drew plenty of targets from teams throwing away from Heisman winner Travis Hunter. He finished the season with 24 total tackles and two interceptions.
“They said they think I’m very versatile,” Hood said. “I mean, I’m also really athletic. They said they think I’m really athletic. I agree. Like, I think I’m probably one of the most athletic guys in the portal and in the college game right now. I also think, that taking their coach, I could be one of the best in the country.”
So what was the sales pitch from Tim Banks and Willie Martinez?
“They basically said I can come in and play and be a big factor of what they got going on immediately. So I think that’s big too.”

And getting back closer to home for both he and his family played a big role for Hood. Also the opportunity to play in the best league in America was also a draw.
“That’s really big because I was just at Colorado, which is really far, really, really far from home,” Hood said. “So being able to come closer to home is big for myself
“It is appealing going against the best. I pride myself on competitiveness, so that is very appealing.
Tennessee now adds a key piece to the secondary with Jermod McCoy coming back from off-season knee injury.
