Vols DB Boo Carter named to On3's preseason true Freshman All-American team
Football season is nearly upon us, and in preparation for the coming weeks and the start of the 2024 season, On3 has assembled the comprehensive Preseason True Freshman All-American Team for 2024.
Led by On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power and On3’s Clark Brooks, the newcomers you should know for the 2024 season and beyond have been chosen. These talented prospects will have a chance to make an immediate impact this upcoming season.
The countdown remains ongoing, but one Tennessee true freshman has been selected to the preseason all-American team in defensive back Boo Carter.
“Simply put, Boo Carter is a baller,” Power wrote in the release. “He is an outstanding football player and one who plays with just an aggressive mentality and has a penchant for making plays. He is a versatile defensive back who appears to be set to see significant snaps and perhaps a starting role in Tennessee’s defense this fall. He is capable of covering slide receivers, running backs, tight ends and is just an aggressive ball -hawking type of presence in the secondary. Boo Carter was a do-it-all player at the high school level and one who I think with continued focus on the defensive side of the ball has a lot of potential and looks to have parlayed a very strong senior season into a great start in Knoxville.”

Carter projects to see early playing time this fall, even if he is not an immediate starter, due to the season-ending knee injury sustained by veteran defensive back Jourdan Thomas.
Carter has received high praise from his coaches as Fall Camp has continued on.
“It gives all the guys opportunities,” Heupel said on August 9th. “Boo has played really well. I thought the last couple days even leading into the scrimmage have been his best day just within the scope of what we do defensively, playing within the framework of that and making plays at the same time. He’s a young guy that needs to and will continue to get better every day, but he’s a dynamic playmaker.”
Veteran Defensive Backs Coach Willie Martinez also shared his thoughts on Carter last week.
“He’s a really good player,” Martinez said during his press conference following last Monday’s practice. “Guy is so talented. I mean, really.“He’s very competitive and he’s very athletic, he’s versatile. Boo can play a lot of positions. We’re just putting him right in a position where you have to make plays. You’ve got to be really good at the Star, the position in our defense that schematically, he’s going be involved almost in every play. Start off with his athleticism, his competitiveness, his love for the game. You can see it both on and off the field and it’s great to have it because he’s going to compete on every play.”
