Tennessee announced the promotion of Levorn Harbin to Outside Linebackers Coach in February, and he is now firmly entrenched in his first spring practice leading the group.

While Harbin’s overall role has changed, his role as a recruiter has not, and he recently detailed the approach that has made him so effect

“Recruiting, no. The coaching part is more on me now,” he told reporters on Friday. “I used to assist with Coach Garner and Coach (Mike) Ekeler and then also my part, so the defense for Coach Banks. So there has been a little bit more with that. The recruiting part, that doesn’t stop. I’m still going to do what I do.”

Harbin’s consistency in doing what he does has led to plenty of success on the recruiting trail for him. That approach is something he

“My mentor Terry Price told me a long time ago, ‘you’re only as good as the players that you have’ and that has always stuck with me,” Harbin said of the approach. ” I know that I’m genuine. I am who I am, and I’m not changing. Everybody who knows me knows that I can go from zero to 100, but the thing about me is that I’m genuine. If you’re good to me, I’m good to you, and that’s the same way with recruiting. I don’t deviate with that. I don’t put on a different mask when it comes to recruiting. We have hard conversations sometimes with me, the parents and the kids, and that’s fine. I tell them that upfront, but we’ll always be honest from start to finish. That will always be consistent about me, and that’s why I think I kind of gravitate towards people who are like that and they gravitate to me.”

Harbin’s approach, in every aspect, not just recruiting has been well-received by those around him as well. Tennessee’s Defensive Coordinator, Tim Banks, said as much earlier in the week.

“I’ll start with Coach Chop (Levorn Harbin); he has been a valuable asset for us since he has gotten here. I know he gets a lot of accolades because of his recruiting, and rightfully so, but he does just as good a job with developing and working with the front. He has kind of been an unsung hero around here for a long time, so I’m super excited he’s finally getting his just due.”

Harbin has already landed one commitment at the LEO position in CJ Edwards since taking over at the Outside Linebacker position. He has Tennessee involved with a handful of others.
