Watch: Darnell Wright reacts to being selected 10th overall by the Chicago Bears
Dreams turned to reality for former Tennessee Volunteer standout offensive tackle Darnell Wright on Thursday night as he was selected by the Chicago Bears with the 10th pick of the 1st round
Wright beco the first Tennessee player taken in this year’s Draft, with other expected to join him on the list in the coming days.
After choosing Tennessee as a five-star recruit in Jeremy Pruitt’s first full recruiting class, Wright chose to stay with the Vols after Josh Heupel was hired, opposed to heading to the transfer portal and seeking a new home.
The decision paid off, and needless to say, there was plenty of emotions involved with it for Wright. Below is a link to his reaction to being selected, posted to Tennessee’s social media accounts on Thursday night.
Wright received plenty of praise heading into the Draft, and one NFL Analyst, Daniel Jeremiah believes he could be the best tackle option.

“I think if you are just saying as a pure tackle,” Jeremiah said last week on a conference call with reporters, “(Wright’s) tape is really, really good. And playing on the right side this year, everybody has talked about the fact that he took a big leap in this year, but it’s hard to find guys that are 330 pounds that move like him and are as strong as he is at right tackle.”
As many as five Tennessee players, including Wright, could go as high as the first three rounds, with offensive quarterback Hendon Hooker, wide receivers Jalin Hyatt and Cedric Tillman and edge rusher Byron Young all projected across the first three rounds in mock drafts over recent weeks as well.
