Things got heated for Tennessee and Auburn in the top of the 11th inning when Liam Doyle tagged out Bristol Carter at home plate on an attempt steal of the plate. This was the continuation of Game 2 of the series after it was suspended on Saturday.

The third out ended the inning as Doyle tagged out the runner, who was in a pickle between home and third base. Words exchanged and players began to come onto the field – but credit umpires, staffs and players for not letting it get completely out of hand.

Emotions were at an all-time high with head coaches Tony Vitello and Butch Thompson livid.

Looking to keep the momentum strong, Andrew Fiacher and Hunter Ensley both singled to begin the home half of the frame. Dalton Bargo moved them both over on a sacrifice bunt to third (5-3) and then freshman Levi Clark was intentionally walked to load the bases with just one out.

Vitello, with the left-handed hitting Reese Chapman due up, played matchup and called on freshman Chris Newstrom to pinch hit. With the infield playing in, the rookie shot a groundball up the middle and that won it for the Volunteers, 5-4, as Fischer scored from third base.

Liam Doyle (W, 8-2) earns the win after tossing the two extra inning frames, allowing just one hit, two walks but with three strikeouts over 34 total pitches. He was the original starter in Game 1 on Friday night before a rain delay washed out the rest of his start.

Dylan Watts (L, 2-) took home the loss after allowing one run on three hits in just one inning of work. Ensley ended the day going 4-for-6 at the plate with two runs driven in. Fischer logged three hits while Cannon Peebles, Manny Marin and Gavin Kilen all tallied a pair of hits.

Game 3 for Tennessee and Auburn is set for 2:30 PM ET on Sunday afternoon. SEC rules dictate a seven-inning game if another game has to be completed on Sundays. It will be the sixth rubber match of the season for the Vols and the fourth-straight weekend it’s all coming don to a Sunday a ballgame.

Game 2 was suspended one pitch into the top of the 10th inning on Saturday with the score knotted at 4-4. Dalton Bargo’s solo home run in the bottom of the ninth tied things up for Tennessee after the Tigers took a 4-3 lead in the top of the frame.
