Newnan, Georgia linebacker Rodney Colton was back on Rocky Top this weekend to see Tennessee once again. After the day in Knoxville, he recapped the trip.

“I enjoyed everything,” Colton said. “It was a good experience. I hadn’t been on campus (for non football) to experience everything. I got to talk to coach Inge and the rest of the staff.”

When he and linebackers coach William Inge have spoken, it’s been about relationships but on Saturday, it was more about football.

“He talked to me about the five coverages,” Colton said. “Hook, curl, curl flat, man. He was running me through that. He put us in the film room and we watched that to show what the backers do here.”

And Colton loves everything about the longtime defensive assistant.

“I like everything,” Colton said. “Good personality and he is a great man. Everything about him is good. He reminds me of my step father. Just a good guy and it’s good to have people around like that and cherish them and everything.”

He also got to spend time with Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel again.

“Great guy,” Colton said. “I like everything about him. I just got done getting to spend time with him.”

At 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds, Colton packs a punch on Friday nights. He has a versatile linebacker who believes he can stand out, no matter where he plays on the defensive side of the ball.

“I can bring a lot,” Colton said. “It depends on where they put me but I’m going to ball. I’m a ball player so wherever you put me I promise I’m going to get the job done.”

Colton said Tennessee is firmly in his top five but what is it that puts them up there?

“Just how they standout to me,” Colton said. “Everything about the school is good.”
