Where does Tennessee stand with Travis Smith heading into official visits?
Atlanta area wide receiver Travis Smith is coming up on a big month of official visits. Over the next four weeks he will see Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee. So what does he look forward to about his next trip to Rocky Top?
“Everything really as far as football and talking football,” Smith said. “Mainly things off the field just seeing how campus life is and seeing teammates and how we jell together. That’s really what I’m looking for.”
He will give Tennessee a legit shot to land him next month and there is a reason why the Vols are standing out to him.
“Every time I go up there whether it’s for a game or on an unofficial visit hanging out with the staff, there is always this family culture around it,” Smith said. “Just making my family comfortable and I see it through their eyes and they know it’s a great place. I just love the culture there. They are very loving.”
Tennessee receivers coach Kelsey Pope has been working Smith hard as his recruitment heats up and winds down ahead of his July 13th commitment date.

“Coach Pope I feel like he can develop me into a top receiver which is where I want to be at,” Smith said. “Coach Pope is going to coach me hard and he has a lot in store for me if I were to go there.”
The draw to play in the Tennessee offense is obviously a big deal.
“It’s huge,” Smith said, “Getting the ball is every receivers dream, no doubt about it. Their ways of distributing the ball is unlike any other. They find ways to get guys open allowing us to make plays.”
Having the head coach running his offense is a big deal to Smith and other offensive targets.
“It just lets you know you have sustainability,” Smith said. “Coach Heupel knowing that is his offense is great. He is a a great offensive mind. The thing about Tennessee is they are always going to have a quarterback.”
