Where Tennessee baseball ranks in national polls following opening weekend sweep

Following the first weekend of the college baseball season, the Tennessee Volunteers remained a top-five team in the country according to three the five major polls who updated thier polls on Monday.
Tennessee remained at No. 4 in the D1 Baseball updated top-25 poll and stayed put at No. 3 in the Baseball America poll that was updated on Monday. Perfect game kept the Vols at thier No. 5 preseason ranking as well.
D1 Baseball, which is the poll this website follows, had the Vols standing pat at No. 4 following the 3-0 weekend. Texas A&M, Virginia and LSU remained in the top-three spots of the poll this week with the Aggies and Tigers being undefeated and the Cavaliers dropping one game. In fact, the top-10 in this poll remained the same from the preseason list.
The Vols began the 2025 campaign with a perfect 3-0 record, sweeping Hofstra in three games by run-rule fashion for a total of 21 of the possible 27 innings. UT outscored the Pride 46-2 on the weekend, trailing just once in the series before its first at-bat in game three. The Vols racked up 33 hits in three games while Hofstra managed just seven.
The longball was evident on opening weekend for the Vols as Tennessee crushed seven home runs, including two grand slams. Hunter Ensley delivered the four-run blow in game 2 while Reese Chapman rounded the bases for four RBI in the series-finale. Last season, the Big Orange totaled a Southeastern Conference record 12 grand slams. The mark was two shy of the Division I single-season record.

Tennessee’s starting pitching between Liam Doyle, Marcus Phillips and Nate Snead combined to go 12 innings of one-run baseball while giving up just four hits with 18 strikeouts to four walks. The bullpen over the three-game series was fantastic, pitching a combined nine innings of one-run baseball.
Tony Vitello’s club returns to action on Tuesday at 4:30 pm eastern time from Lindsey Nelson Stadium against UNC Asheville. The Vols welcome Samford this weekend for a three-game home series.
