Ian Boyd and LC go over 11 personnel in this video, which corresponds to plays where teams have one tight end, one running back, and three wide receivers on the field. 11 personnel is the most common personnel grouping in modern football, being utilized by both pro-style teams like Texas and other teams of varying styles such as Oklahoma, Mississippi State, and others.

Ian mentions Texas is the main personnel package for Texas, though it’s not the exclusive package. There are multiple ways to use 11 personnel based off formations. Tight ends can line up in isolation while wide receivers can spread themselves out and find more room to operate.

There are also opportunities to run five-wide sets in 11 personnel. Texas, as it does often, runs tight sets too. One of Arch Manning’s best passes of 2024 is highlighted from 11 personnel, when Manning finds DeAndre Moore versus Mississippi State.
