2023 On3 Consensus four-star Tay'Shawn Wilson talks next Texas visit
Texas and Houston (Texas) Mayde Creek defensive back Tay’Shawn Wilson continue to build on their relationship. The 5-foot-9, 167-pound junior mighty-mite brings speed and a punch. He’ll also be bringing himself back to Austin on April 9th, he tells IT.
“I’ll be down April 9th,” said Wilson. “(Recruiting) is going good. (Texas) came to watch me workout before the dead period, so we will see how’s things continue to go this spring.”
You might’ve seen his track prowess recently. Wilson spit out 10.6 100 two weeks ago and he’s only building on that. It’s all part of his work ethic this spring and off-season.
“I feel like I can improve on a lot,” Wilson said.” I don’t get many opportunities in the passing game, so I want to make sure I stay sharp with my technique and reading route concepts. I been working more on covering the slot in the off-season, because during the season, I am locked on the outside wide receiver, so I just want to stay versatile. Still working on my eyes with play recognition and route concepts.”

The On3 Consensus four-star holds nine offers including Texas, Baylor, Colorado, and Louisiana Tech. He tripped to Austin last season on September 18th, then hit Notre Dame on October 2nd. He was also in College Station late in January at the Texas A&M Junior Day. The Aggies are certainly interested as well.
This excerpt from the Recruiting Notebook:
“CB Tay’Shawn Wilson, Mayde Creek (Houston, TX) – 2023:
How he fits at Texas: Wilson is an ultra-twitchy defensive back for Mayde Creek down in Houston who is currently playing several positions. He’ll get some work as a cover safety over a slot and outside as a cornerback in addition to playing receiver, running back, and punt returner. With a 21.86 200m time as a sophomore, Wilson has some pretty legitimate pure speed. He’s currently 5-foot-9, 165 pounds and plays the ball in front of him pretty well closing on passes or ball carriers. He could play as a field cornerback or slide inside to safety, much like Nathan Vasher or Quandre Diggs, those feisty, little burners of the past. – @IanBoyd“
Wilson is the nation’s No. 29-ranked cornerback and No. 235 player in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3 tabs Wilson as the No. 40-ranked prospect overall in Texas for 2023.
