2023 Texas football schedule finally revealed

The long-awaited complete 2023 Texas football schedule is finally here after the Big 12 Conference released this year’s league slate for its 14 members. The nine-game conference portion of the schedule after three non-conference games versus Rice, Alabama, and Wyoming includes the annual Red River Shootout on October 7 and the program’s first trip to Houston since 2001.

The three non-conference games had been previously announced. The 2023 Texas football schedule begins on September 2 when the Longhorns host the Rice Owls at Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium. Then, Texas makes their second-ever visit to Tuscaloosa, Ala. and first since 1902 to play the Crimson Tide at Bryant-Denny Stadium on September 9. Non-conference play concludes with a home matchup with Wyoming in Austin on September 16. It’ll be the sixth meeting ever between the schools and the first since 2012.

Big 12 play for the Longhorns opens on September 23 with a trip to Waco, Texas to face the Baylor Bears. One week later, Texas hosts the Kansas Jayhawks in Memorial Stadium on September 30.

The Red River Shootout versus Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas will be on October 7, with the Longhorns’ bye week taking place the following week.

On October 21, Texas will play former Southwest Conference rival Houston for the first time since 2002 and the first time away from Austin since 2001. Texas then welcomes the BYU Cougars on October 28 for the two program’s first meeting since 2013.

November opens with a home game on November 4 versus Kansas State before Texas embarks on a two-game road trip. The Longhorns play reigning national finalist TCU in Fort Worth, Texas on November 11, then travel to Ames, Iowa to face Iowa State on November 18.

The season closes on Friday, November 24 with a rivalry matchup versus Texas Tech in Austin.

The Big 12 Championship is scheduled for December 2 in Arlington, Texas at AT&T Stadium.
