The 5-foot-11, 200-pound tailback broke Longview’s single-season touchdown record of 29 two weeks ago. He’s been phenomenal in his junior year, and after Steve Sarkisian and Tashard Choice watched him play versus Mansfield Timberview last Friday, they were convinced.
“Coach Sark and Coach Choice just told me they were really impressed after seeing me in person,” Tatum said. “I grew up a Texas fan, like a dream school. Then watching Carthage running back Keaontay Ingram, I just always really liked Texas.”
Texas is one of a handful of major contenders for Tatum along with Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Baylor. He’s visited Austin multiple times in 2022.
“I’m eager to get to know Coach Choice,” said Tatum. “He’s a really good coach and I loved what UT running backs did this year.”

Tatum has largely been recruited by schools in the region but he boasts a national offer sheet from the likes of USC, Tennessee, Michigan State, TCU, Auburn, Stanford, Ole Miss, Penn State, Notre Dame and many more.
Tatum ranks as the No. 79 prospect and the No. 5 running back in the country per the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
He ranks even higher in the On300. He’s listed as the No. 36 prospect and the No. 2 running back in the country. The four-star has an On3 NIL Valuation of 64K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
