The picture is starting to become clearer at linebacker, especially after the Texas Longhorns’ latest addition. 2025 Fort Worth (Texas) North Crowley linebacker Jonathan Cunningham committed to Texas in a ceremony at North Crowley High School on Friday, choosing the Longhorns over TCU and Utah.

Cunningham is ranked as the No. 423 overall prospect, the No. 44 linebacker, and the No. 63 player in Texas in the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. On3 ranks Cunningham as the No. 51 linebacker and the No. 106 prospect in Texas.

The On3 Industry Ranking three-star has taken a number of visits to Texas in 2024, including an official visit on June 14. He’s communicated most with UT defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski and linebackers coach Johnny Nansen. The relationship that those three have built were a big factor in Cunningham’s decision, something he detailed to Inside Texas in May.

He joins a Longhorn recruiting class that currently has Dallas (Texas) Skyline’s Elijah Barnes committed. Nansen and company are working to add San Diego (Calif.) J Serra Catholic’s Madden Faraimo as well.

Cunningham’s addition continues a strong run at North Crowley for Texas. Former UT linebacker S’Maje Burrell was part of Texas’ 2023 class before he decided to enter the transfer portal. Cunningham means Texas adds another quality linebacker from the surging Metroplex program. In the not-too-distant future in 2026, North Crowley has five-star offensive tackle John Turntine in the Longhorns’ sights.

Cunningham is the 14th addition to the Longhorns’ 2025 recruiting class.

Cunningham is an athletic linebacker who has defensive back covering abilities. He was being recruited by a number or schools at safety, so that speaks to his athleticism. Cunningham can fit in the same role as Texas’ Morice Blackwell, playing in space, covering tight ends and slot receivers. At almost 200 pounds, Cunningham will have to gain weight, but he shows a of physicality and toughness when coming up to make the tackle or take on pulling offensive lineman..
