2025 Opponent Offseason Storylines: Taylen Green remains at the helm of the Arkansas offense

Malachi Nelson isn’t the only former Boise State quarterback the Longhorns are set to face this year. Arkansas returns starting quarterback Taylen Green after he posted a 3000-yard season with a 60.4 percent completion percentage. As the Sam Pittman (and Bobby Petrino) era continues for at least another year in Fayetteville, the Razorbacks will have one of the more underrated quarterbacks in the nation at the helm of an offense that welcomes intriguing transfers for Green to throw to.

Green was the second-brightest star for the 2024 Razorback offense behind star receiver Andrew Armstrong. He was 238-for-381 for 3154 yards and 15 touchdowns over nine interceptions. It was his first time in his career completing more than 200 passes, attempting more than 300 passes, and passing for over 2500 yards. The 6-foot-6, 215-pounder also ran for eight scores and was the second leading rusher on the team behind Ja’Quinden Jackson. Green struggled out of the gate some, failing to complete over 50% of his passes against Arkansas’ two FBS early season non-conference opponents. Then, he started to find his stride. He passed for 279 yards in a close loss to Texas A&M, 266 yards in a win over Tennessee, 240 yards versus LSU, then 314 yards in a six total touchdown game versus Mississippi State.
The end of the season was rough, starting with the Ole Miss game. Green completed only 10 passes in a blowout loss to the Rebels. Then, Texas limited him to only 149 yards through the air and forced an interception. Some of those struggles may have had to do with a nagging knee injury suffered versus Tennessee. That said, he played better over the Hogs’ final three games, posting a wild 16.2 yards per attempt against Texas Tech in the Liberty Bowl. Green was 11-for-21 for 341 yards and two scores. He also rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown.
With Armstrong, Jackson, and Isaac TeSlaa off to the NFL and Isaiah Sategna in Oklahoma colors Green’s targets will look different. Pittman and company brought in transfers like Jalen Brown, Ismael Cisse, Courtney Crutchfield, O’Mega Blake, Kam Shanks, and Raylen Sharpe for Green to target in his final year of eligibility. The whole Arkansas team will look different, too, with Landon Jackson gone from the Hogs’ defense.

But in modern college football, quarterback stability is key. Arkansas has a known commodity in Green, which likely was a reason why a high number of transfers found a decent destination in Fayetteville. In a crucial year for Pittman as the high hog, the Arkansas football program has one of the more underrated quarterbacks in the country leading the way as the Razorbacks try to battle into a higher tier in the college football landscape.
Health will be key, but continuity at quarterback with the talented Green, plus more good pass-catching options has the Razorback offense as one to look out for in 2025.
