Today is 36 days until kickoff. No. 36 for the Longhorns this season will be worn by Quinn Merritt, a sophomore walk-on wide receiver. We’ll also look at the Longhorns’ all-time win total, which currently sits at 936.
936-390-33
The Longhorns are one of a select few teams with 1) over 900 wins 2) fewer than 400 losses 3) a .700 or higher winning percentage and 4) fewer than 40 ties.
Texas’ 936 wins is good for fifth among college football programs at any level. In 1359 games, Texas is 936-390-33 with a .701 win percentage.
The current top 15 among Division I teams, both FBS and FCS, is
- No. 1 Michigan – 989-353-36
- No. 2 Ohio State – 953-331-53
- No. 2 Alabama – 953-335-43
- No. 4 Notre Dame – 938-334-42
- No. 5 Texas – 936-390-33
- No. 6 Oklahoma – 934-338-53
- No. 7 Yale – 929-387-55
- No. 8 Penn State – 920-406-41
- No. 9 Nebraska – 912-417-40
- No. 10 Harvard – 893-409-50
- No. 11 Penn – 872-509-42
- No. 12 Georgia – 868-428-54
- No. 13 USC – 867-363-54
- No. 14 Princeton – 857-416-50
- No. 15 Tennessee – 856-410-53
Texas’ 2023 schedule features two teams in the top six in Alabama and Oklahoma. A standout season could put the Longhorns into the No. 4 spot, depending on how the Fighting Irish’s year goes.
No matter what, only a select handful of programs have won more games than the Longhorns. 950 wins is on the table, but the march to 1000 wins continues this season for Texas.
