Why was it Texas?
JW: “Texas just felt like home. The life after football part, you really just can’t mess up an opportunity like that when you’re a kid from Texas and when you’ve already started your legacy in Texas. It’s just a dream come true.”
Ultimately, what was the biggest deciding factor for you with the pick of 30+ schools?
JW: “Just the pros and the cons of every school from my top five schools, I just felt like there were more pros for me than cons in Austin, Texas, and that’s why I chose Texas.”
When did it start to swing toward Texas?
JW: “Everyone always slept on Texas. I didn’t get to go up for an official visit. That’s why everyone slept on Texas. That last visit, it was like a mini, brief visit. I felt like Texas had everything I needed, so that’s why I chose Texas.”
You’re enrolling early. Are you going straight to the football field or to the diamond with Jim Schlossnagle?
JW: “To the diamond with Coach Schloss.”
Do you know what position? Like in football, you can play them all.
JW: “Utility.”
How much did he play a role in Texas swinging things for you and getting your commitment?
JW: “He played a big role because my decision was baseball and football. Coach Schloss did play a pretty big role. Him coming from A&M just made it more of a dream.”

What about Blake Gideon? Talk about your relationship with him since he’s your position coach. What about him do you like?
JW: “Coach Gideon, that’s my dog. Me and him are close. He started halfway through his freshman year and that’s what I’m trying to accomplish. I’m trying to get on the field as early as possible. No better person to develop me than someone who has been through it.”
Which Texas players have you talked to or know pretty well?
JW: “I know most of the safeties. I know (Michael) Taaffe, Jelani (McDonald), (Derek Williams), I know all them.”
Do you talk with the 2025 commits?
JW: “We all talk. I know KJ Lacey, I know Lance (Jackson), I know all of them. I know Kaliq (Lockett). I know all of them”
Are you about to turn into a recruiter?
JW: “I definitely am in recruiter mode now that I’m officially team Texas.”
Who are some of your biggest targets?
JW: “Jaime Ffrench and Dakorien Moore. I’m coming for them.”
When did you tell Coach Sark? Did you come to this table having not told any coaches, or when did you tell the Texas staff you were committing?
JW: “I didn’t tell the Texas staff.”
So this was a surprise for them of some sort?
JW: “Yes sir.”
Are you taking any more visits? Are you shutting things down?
JW: “I’m pretty sure I’m shutting things down.”
